I think one of these two statements must be wrong:

1. this is the last expansion (call it whatever you want) for GW1
2. this will be priced lower than the other chapters.

If this is indeed the last expansion, then possibly one fo the reasons it is taking so long is because after the CH1/3 team finished Ch3, they joined forced with the CH2 team, and are making this a huge game, with hopefully enough content to hold us over for a while. If that is the case, it would still probably be $50.

O.o what are asurians, norns and sylvarians?
no idea what they are in the guild wars world, as of yet they don't exist, but I think that since Anet has finished the flameseeker prophecies storyline, they are now focusing on the next large storyline, so in order to keep most of their resources focused on that, they will produce "filler" story packages that could possibly introduce new races, broaden areas of the world, expand the lore, and set everything up for when "Guild Wars 2" will be released, it is "2" because it will be the 2nd major story of the series, not because it a whole new game where your characters are going to get left behind

just my opinion

This sounds truly awesome, if it is true at all. One thing I wonder about is the whole proffessions thing. It was stated after they talked about Guild Wars 2, so i'm thinking that if this is true, once again, the new playable races will be in GW2. However, if there was to be no Guildwars till 2009-10, then it would seem smart to add new races with new beggining places and story lines which kinda tie in with other races, to keep us from getting bored ~.~

Anyway, that's my own opinion.

There-in lies Blizzard's tragedy/folly.

Flagship Studios (Roper and the brother ala Diablo series) does not intend to make the same mistake with Hellgate London.

Ok, but to sum GW1 so far:

We have:
  • Saved a continent from a menace from beyond the grave, preventing destruction to millions of people.
  • Defeated an incredibly powerful warrior spirit and envoy.
  • Killed a God.

What's next? Creating an edible Pot Noodle?

I think A-net wants to go for broke in winning the next generation of MMOs. There are plenty of good things about Guild Wars, but I think they'll do better by dropping the 6-month expansions model and adding a "pay to expand" model. The game was growing too quickly for players to reasonably keep up.

As long as easy access to PvP remains a goal, I'll happily let Anet start over. If GW2 turns to a WoW clone, I'm off to other games.

I love guild wars but would love it better if it was more mmoish as in a lot more content and explorable areas ect... so if a GW2 is coming.. I'll be extremely interested in that.. as for any more chapters meh...

Default Don't change the pay structure please

Regardless of what direction Anet chooses to take the content of the game, I'm sure I will be as pleased with it as I have been with GW in general up to this point. The only thing I don't want to see happen is the game go to a monthly fee format. The GW pay structure has been the one overriding thing that I think Anet has done absolutely right. Please don't make me pay for a game that I then have to pay monthly fees to play. That's a double whammy for people who don't have buckets of money to spend on gaming and has always left a bad, bad taste in my mouth. Either let us pay for the software and have free online play as we currently do, padding the coffers with bonuses like extra character slots and pvp skill unlock packs, or give the software away as a free download and charge the monthly fee.

GW has garnered a huge following and seemed to have done very well by doing things the right way instead of ripping off their customers like the people running other MMO games. Please stick by your guns.

Don't know about that. I think Diablo 2 and Doom 2, 3 sales were still pretty high.

Not all is false. Not all is true. Unfortunately we're not in a position (yet) to say what is on target. Bear with us -- it's really essential that things move along as planned. As to a CE -- I honestly don't know but will try to find out so that we can share any information about that soon.

Thanks to those who are sharing positive responses and constructive (and fascinating) speculation. Whatever comes in the future, our commitment to you continues: We will listen, we will respect your input, and we will continue to consider your feedback and suggestions as we develop our games.

I posted some hints earlier in the thread but to reiterate:

Silva is latin for forest, so sylvarians are likely a race that has something to do with forests

asura- in Hindu mythology, an antagonist of the gods; especially one of a race of titans or demons

norn- in Norse mythology, any of the three godessess, Urth(the past), Verthandi(the present), and Skuld(the future), who determined the destiny of gods and men

Maybe that is one one the reasons ppl need one of the chapters. Travelling on all continents for intertwined chapter-missions through time

Norn? By that description, I can think of only one creature in GW: Glint.

We should just take this article with a grain of salt, especially since there is nothing on the NCSoft website. And if there was, it would be plastered on every gaming website around the world, at least the major ones.

Second, I don't think ANet has the resources and definitely not the manpower to make a game, let alone a chapter with that much content, at least not right now. I think it was said somewhere that ANet has around a hundred employees and by the description of the article that would require several hundred. Especially in the areas of the Art and Programming department.

But as Gaile said, some are true but some are false, although the 150 skills details sucked, especially since most were said to be aimed at PvP. I especially like the excel of PvE content, especially the Armor

You don't want to confirm anything yet, OK. That's fair, since it becomes official and a promise and set in stone if you whisper that it may be done one day. Can't blame you for that at all.

but you can't deny the thigns that you KNOW are untrue? Not even clearing up the misleading info or saying that some things aren't exactly right, but things that are downright wrong, ANet won't step in and say "this isn't right. We can't say what it will be, but this isn't it."

I hope to see GW continue, with new chapters or expansions, for a long time. I ALSO hope to see GW2 when it's ready. Guildwars has provided a great game experience, and I believe that it can continue to do so for many yeears to come. There are some glaring shortcomings in it (z-axis movement, for one) but it's a solid, enjoyable and replayable game for a good price. I may complain about certain facets of the game, but ArenaNet has done a great job of listening to their players and trying to make the best game they can.

With that in mind, I have high expectations and hopes for GW2 and the future of the GW franchise. Remember, the original Everquest is still going strong even after the release of EQ2. Diablo 2 is run on private servers all across the world. A good game doesn't die, and I don't think ArenaNet would just toss Guild Wars aside for the next new thing. I expect that one way or another, the players who know and love GW will be able to play it for a long time.

I still call BS on about 90% of that article, but for the record, the screenshot is, as some have already pointed out, NOT of Pre-Searing Wizard's Folly, as I had said.
I was mistaken on that. (Wizard's Folly is actually cooler. ^_^)

W00T!!!498th Post!!!

C'mon Anet, you can give us something. Just confirm the name for god's sake.

Guild Wars: Eye of the North

Is the GWEN in there accidental? Think again, Anet never does things accidentally. Just look at the thousands of allusions implanted in Lore and gameplay ( Don't ask for examples, just open your eyes).

Just 10 more days until hell breaks loose on all GW forums.

I don't think they mean most are aimed at pvp since currently almost every skill used in pve can be used in pvp.

It just talks about how they are making PvE MORE special by giving it more unqiue skills.
